Stitching Challenge: Warm My Heart Layout by Karen

Hi everyone! It's Karen, and today I get to share with you a layout I created for the fun DT challenge we have going on right now - it's all about stitching! Now, I have to admit that I love to pull out the sewing machine every now again (more on fabric than my paper project though), but adding a stitching detail, either by hand or as a faux embellishment, is a regular part of all of my projects! I love the texture it adds, and there really is so much that you can try!

This little layout featuring my youngest daughter together with my favorite Cream & Sugar collection, was the perfect layout to get out the needle and thread...er....doodle twine! I had a really top heavy grouping that included the photo and so other fun elements, so I needed something to balance out that part of the layout.
So I used a ruler and a pencil to sketch a variety of lines spaced randomly and of a variety of lengths to fill the sace below the picture grouping. Then I grabbed a large pin, and pierced along the lines every 5mm. When I use twine to stitch, I like longer spaces between holes so you can really see the white and colour in the twine. Then I got out the trusty needle and stitched away with some cute Swimming Pool coloured doodle twime from the Brights Collection. I finished off each row with a small Swimming Pool Glitter Sprinkle and then added some die cuts from the Cream & Sugar Odds and Ends pack with some foam adhesive.
Now, I know the challenge is all about stitching, but I could help but feature one of my other ways to use twine on my layouts! I am a huge fan of Doodlebug's mini paperclips - they make their way on to every Doodlebug layout I create. But sometimes, they get a little bit lost with all the fun patterns and embellishments. So grab out little hero, and tie on a little bow! Voila - cute clip with the texture to stand on it's own! oh, and how cute would this be in a planner?!
Okay, there are so many little parts that I love about this layout! This collection has seen a lot of time out on my crafty table, and this coffee/baking themed collection is the perfect one to feature some baker's twine - don't you think? I hope you've been inspired to add a bit of stitching to your next project!
Thanks for stopping by! Hugs, Karen
