Abigail Font Stickers: Dole Whip Layout by Tya

Some of my favorite pictures are of the traditions that my family does. One of our traditions when we visit Disneyland is we always get a Dole Whip. Nothing says Disney to me more than our delicious treat we always enjoy. I wanted to celebrate those memories on a layout:
The Abigail font stickers were the perfect size to make this fun title for my layout. And just how fun is the font? I am such a font junkie and when these stickers came out, I knew that I would love them! I don't very often use stickers for my titles, but I loved placing them on a cardstock circle and mounted the circle on a Swimming  Pool Doily for some added texture. I placed a pink heart sticker from the Fun in the Sun This and That sticker sheet for some color and a center to wrap the stickers around. I cut out the pineapple using my Silhouette using the Fun in the Sun Pineapple cut file found  here.
Here are a few more close ups of the layout:

I had such a fun time making this layout and will be looking forward to using the adorable Abigail stickers on more of my layouts. I hope I have inspired you all to do the same! Happy Crafting!

Washi Tape Challenge: Flamingo Layout by Melinda

Washi tape is one of those particular products we seem to hoard because we can't bare to part with it. However, you will be amazed at just how little you need to use from your stash to add a touch of fun to your projects. Today I'm going to show you how to apply a little bit of dimension using a very small amount of washi leaving plenty of leftovers in your collection for future projects... or just to look at and admire.

I simply used multiple strips of washi tape in layers and gently curled at the ends to create a feathered look to the wing of the flamingo. It produced a soft effect that gave the layout a lift without going overboard on using too much of my tape.

First step was to place small lengths of tape to plain vellum before cutting each individual strip and then punching one end with a rounded corner punch. Next step was to overlap and adhere each strip to the wing of the flamingo before gently bending each tip around a pen to create the dimension.

This gorgeous flamingo is from the Doodlebug - Fun In the Sun cut file collection which you can find at the links below. However I did alter the file a little as I wanted to put the title of my layout 'Flamingo' down the shape of the neck.

Flamingo - Fun in the Sun (Lori Whitlock)
Flamingo - Fun in the Sun (Silhouette)

And just look at that pink eye, it almost looks real - well it's actually from the Shaped Sprinkles (eye candy) in this year's Booville collection. I kid you not!

I didn't hold back in mixing and matching collections on this layout with a combination of Spring ThingsBoovilleFun In the SunMilk & Cookies plus a touch of Petite Prints card stock. I will always find room on my layouts for anything transparent like these sweet clouds and sun from the Spring Things Odds & Ends pack.

Off the Page with Kathy - Doodlebug Fabric + Doodlebug Cut Files = Fun!

Hi Everyone!  It's Kathy today with my Off the Page project.  I've been hoarding Doodlebug Design Fabric for quite some time, and I thought that the Off the Page Challenge would be the perfect chance to break into my stash!  I made this pillow for my daughter's dorm room using some fabrics from the Under the Sea Collection, some Santa Express Stripe Green Fabric and the Cactus - Fun in the Sun Cut File available here in the Silhouette Store and here in the Lori Whitlock SVG Shop.  Take a peek....

I will say, I was nervous to cut fabric with my Silhouette, I had never done it before, but it really wasn't difficult.  There is just a little prep work involved to get the fabric ready for cutting. First, you want to add your fabric pieces in a plastic bag, and soak with fabric stiffener.  I used Terial Magic. Make sure the fabric is soaked through.

Let your fabric hang dry for about 15-20 minutes.  It won't be completely dry.

Take the damp pieces of fabric and iron between 2 silicone craft sheets or parchment paper. ( this is to protect your iron and your ironing board cover)  the heat will dry the fabric and make it stiff like a piece of paper.

Your fabric is now ready to be cut.  In my case, I did one extra step.  I added Silhouette fabric stabilizer.  This was so that I could iron the fabric pieces on to my pillow case.  You do not need to do this if you just wish to sew the fabric.  I cut a piece of the stabilizer slightly smaller than my fabric piece, ironed it on then trimmed the excess fabric.  My fabric is now ready to be cut.

If using a Silhouette, you want to use a fabric blade for cutting.

Start by peeling the paper backing from the stabilizer off of the fabric.

Add the fabric to your cutting mat and feed into your Silhouette.  Add your design to the Silhouette Design Studio, size as desired.  Change your settings to Fabric - thin like cotton, and set your blade as recommended.  (I set mine to 4)  then send to cut.

Just like any design, peel away the extra and you have your design!  I did this for all of the Cactus pieces.

Once all my pieces were cut, I ironed them on to the front panel of my pillow case.  You want to start with the bottom most layer, then add the top next layers as you go along.  (I made my own envelope pillow case using the tutorial here, but you can also purchase them pre-made.)

My pillowcase was ready to be stitched together at this point, but first I added some stitching around the different applique pieces to make them a bit more sturdy, better for a dorm room!

I then finished stitching the envelope pillowcase together and added a pillow form!

My daughter was thrilled and is excited to add this to her dorm room  decor!  That's it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek!

Stitching Challenge: Beach Babe Layout by Kathy

Hi Everyone!  It's Kathy today with my Stitching Challenge project!  The Doodlebug Design Team members were challenged to create a project where stitching with Doodlebug Twine was the focus.  I decided to create stitching files on my Silhouette using the adorable Doodlebug Cut files!  Take a peek...

Since I wanted my stitching to be the focus, I kept my layout pretty simple...a grid design using some Gingham Linen Petite Prints and a few shaped sprinkles as embellishments.  I stitched using some Doodle Twine in Bumblebee, Coral (from the Spring Assortment, Bubble Blue, Swimming Pool, Bubblegum and Blue Jean.  Here are some close-ups of the stitched squares...

For these squares, I used the Silhouette cut files Sun- Fun in the Sun (here in Lori Whitlock SVG shop) and Clouds Spring Things (here in Lori Whitlock SVG shop)

The shell file is the Pearl Shell -Under the Sea Silhouette file (here in the Lori Whitlock SVG Shop) , the waves I created myself.

The sand dollar was created using the Sand Dollar Under the Sea Silhouette file (here in the Lori Whitlock SVG Shop),  The starfish is the Shell Under the Sea file (here in the Lori Whitlock SVG Shop) and the fish is from  Fish - Anchors Aweigh file (here in the Lori Whitlock SVG shop).

I finished my layout with a simple title using some Skinny Alphas in Swimming Pool and some Stickers from the Under The Sea Icon Sheet.

And now something for you!  I put together this video tutorial showing how I created the stitch files using my Silhouette and Doodlebug cut files.

That's it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek!

Odds & Ends Challenge: Punny Cards by Kathy

Hi Everyone!  It's Kathy today with my Odds & Ends Challenge project.  I will admit, it really wasn't much of a challenge to find a way to make these adorable embellishments the focus of a project!  They are just so cute, they really do all the work for you!  I decided to make a few (well OK, it turned into 12) cards using some Odds & Ends and some punny sentiments...  take a peek...

I really had to stop myself from making more.  I combined the Odds & Ends from the At the Zoo, Fairy Tales, Cream & Sugar, Kitten Smitten and Fun in the Sun Collections, with some Gingham Linen Petite Prints to make the cards!  The sentiments, well, I can't resist a good pun!

Here are some close-ups of the cards...

These went together really quickly.    I love that I now have a bunch of cards to send out when needed!  Be sure to stop by the blog for more Odds & Ends inspiration from the design team!  That's it for me today, thank you for stopping by to peek!

Silhouette Cut File - coming soon

Hello, Doodlebug fans! Aren't you just loving these new "Fun in the Sun" cutting files. Today I have a project to share that uses some of these new releases, along with files from other collections too. Since I live in Florida, I thought it would be kind of fun to create a Christmas project with a tropical feel.
I didn't do a tutorial for this one, but here are a few pictures of the piece being built.
  1. Both the scooter and the mini trailer were made from chipboard and foam board. Using my Silhouette,  I cut my base pieces out of thin chipboard. Then I mounted them to two layers of  foam board and hand cut them out with a sharp craft knife. I wanted the trailer to be a little thicker, so I sandwiched some wood discs in-between some thick chipboard for some added depth. Some thin chipboard was glued around the edges to hide the space.
  2. Here you can see layers of chipboard being added to the scooter.
  3. I cut pieces for the back and the front sides of the trailer and scooter.
  4. While covering the trailer with patterned paper, I decided to turn the luggage into a stack of presents.
Here are some close-ups of the files I used from today's release.
The pieces for Santa's Tiki drink, (non alcoholic, of course) were cut on the Silhouette, pieced together, then mounted to chipboard.
The fan leaves were cut in two colors, then hot glued onto some thin wire, to create a lei. The sunglasses were also cut then mounted to chipboard. I applied some cyrstal lacquer to them to give them a glossy finish.
As I mentioned before, the suitcases were transformed into a stack of presents.
Here's another small gift I made for the scooter.
To keep with the tropical theme, a small Christmas tree was decorated with flamingo sprinkles.
I also added an Odds and Ends umbrella, to protect Rudolph from the sun.
As this is a free standing piece, I finished the back as well. Thanks for joining me today! :) Jennifer Doodlebug Files Used: Fun in the Sun - Tiki Drink, Sunglasses, Suitcases, Fan Leaf, Flamingo, Here Comes Santa Claus - Santa on Scooter, Reindeer.
