Viva Chile Layout | with Caroli

I love the Independence Day holiday, in my country, Chile. It occurs in September, when we are starting Spring down here, and we have the perfect excuse to get together with family and friends, drink and eat like there is no tomorrow.

Most of the kids get dressed in our typical customes, included my two little ones. Last year I tried to snap a shot of my kids wearing their typical Chilean dresses, but my baby boy decided he was not much into photos, so we literally had to run after him and just got this hilarious attempt of a photo.
I love this kind of stories, so of course I had to scrap these pics of my very well behaved daughter and the earthquake I call my son :)

Something I love is that our typical colors in Chile are the same as in USA, so all patriotic collections work perfect for my own patriotic documenting, yay! I used Yankee Doodle collection for this layout.
Although I am trying get out of my confort zone and avoid white backgrounds, in this one I had to work on a white base because I love how blue and red pop from white. Here's my layout:

I used a stars cut file by The Cut Shoppe, and used my scissors to cut it into different parts, this way I was able to use it in opposite corners of the page. I backed some of the stars with patterned paper and left some of the just blank, love the effect.

I had a main rectangular photo and also two little circle shaped photos to complement the design. I love how the circle ones seems like hiding behind some of the stars, I think they look nice.

For my title I cut some big letters in patterned paper and completed using a word I cut on my Silhouette Cameo machine using free font Better Together. I also used my sewing machine to stitch over this latter, just to add an extra detail to the title.

As you may know, journaling is a really important part of all my layouts, for me scrapbooking is all about the photos and the stories behind them and journaling is in charge of telling the stories. In this case I wanted my journaling to be an active part of my design, so I  wrote it in the middle of my page using red pen and also highlighted few words using Teensy Typo alpha in blue color.
Finally, I randomly stitched on some of the star of the cut file and plastered some blue ink here and there, just to make the design funnier and messier, but in a controlled and clean way :)

I love how this layout came out, it tells a funny story and documents a happy memory for me, I'm glad I was able to work on it and add it to my scrapbooks.
I hope you got inspired by this and start documenting some of your fresh patriotic memories, let me know if you use some of the ideas I explained here or if you lift this project.

Thank you for stopping by today, have a great scrappy time!
