SUMMER FUN ACCORDION TAG MINI ALBUM | with Kathy

I'm back with another Summer Fun mini album.  Two of my favorite types of mini's are accordion and tag books.  I decided to combine the two with this cute album... Take a peek...

I started with two chipboard covers, each measuring 3"x 4.75".  I covered both with the wave side of the water babies paper.  I glued down a piece of seam tape (long enough to wrap around my whole book, about 24") to the center of my front cover and then decorated it with some Odds & Ends, Shaped Sprinkles and a word bubble from the Chit Chats.

Next, I created my pocket accordion pages.  To make them, I first cut 2 pieces of white cardstock each measuring 12"x 6.25".  I overlapped the short sides 1" and adhered together using double sided tape.  I trimmed this one long strip down to be 16.5".  My finished piece measured 16.5"x6.25".  Next I scored the piece.  To create the pockets, I scored the long way 1.75" up from the bottom, and folded it up. My strip measured 4.5" tall when folded.   To create the individual pages, I scored the long strip (with the bottom folded up)  at 2.75", 5.5", 8.25, 11" and 13.75".  I then accordion folded the pages using a bone folder for crisp folds.

To create my wavy boarder, I cut a 6 pieces of the wave paper measuring 2.5"w x 1.75"h.  I used a wave border die from my stash to cut the top of each piece about .25" down. You could also do this by hand.  I glued the wave pieces onto the pocket of each page section, then trimmed the top of the white cardstock to align with the waves.  I then added fishies from the summer school shaped sprinkles and the cute pelican from the odds & ends to decorate.

To finish, I stitched the pockets with my machine to hold them down and glued the covers onto each side of the accordion.

Next I created my tag "pages".  To create my tags, I started with papers from the 6x8 pad, and some lime petite prints cut to 2.5" x 4.25".  I trimmed the top corners, and punched a hole in the middle to make the tags.  I added some doodle twine and combined them with some tags from the bits & pieces in my pockets.

For a little visual interest, I created a cute clip using a lily white mini clothes pin and the seagull from the tropical trio doodle pops.

I decorated my tags with a variety of mini icon stickers, chit chat pieces, this & that stickers, puffy words and bits & pieces.  I also added some photo mats.

This is the perfect mini to document a weekend getaway!  And because everything is more fun when you cans see it in action, I created a quick flip through.

SUMMER FUN 4x4 MINI ALBUM | with Conny

Hello, crafty friends!  t’s Conny here from The Daily Life of Creativity, and I’m so happy to be back with another mini album tutorial! Today we’re creating a 4” x 4” mini album using the Summer Fun collection. This album may be small, but it has plenty of room for creativity! It includes pockets, flip pages, and interactive elements, giving you plenty of space for mini photos, journaling, and, of course, fun embellishment clusters. As always, I love creating my own album bases. They do take a little more time to construct, but I promise—the finished project is completely worth it!

I started with the chipboard pieces:  I cut two pieces measuring 4” x 4” for the covers and one piece measuring 4” x 2 1/2” for the spine.

For the cover, I used Swimming Pool Gingham Linen petite prints from which I cut one piece to 12” x 5”.   I placed the chipboard pieces onto the cardstock, leaving approximately 1/8” between the spine and covers. I centered everything and left an even amount of cardstock around the outside to wrap the chipboard.  Next I trimmed the corners at an angle, leaving about 1/8” from the chipboard, Lastly, I adhered and wrapped all four sides.

Now for the hinges:  I cut a piece of cardstock 4” x 9” and scored it on the 9” side at:

2”, 2 1/2”, 3”, 3 1/2”, 4”, 4 1/2”, 5”, 5 1/2”, 6”, 6 1/2”, and 7”.

I folded the scored sections into three raised hinges, leaving the first and last sections flat; I also left a flat section between the hinges.  To finish, I glued the raised sections together, then attached the hinge to the center of the spine. Three pages worked perfectly for me because I knew I would be adding lots of embellishments and foam adhesive. 

For each pocket page, I cut a piece of patterned paper 4” x 8” and score at 4”.  I folded it in half and added adhesive along the two sides and bottom, leaving the top open to create the pocket.

I added approximately 3 1/4” x 4"  inserts inside the pockets, leaving a little space at the top so I could add embellishment clusters.

For one of the pages, I also created a tri-fold using the Swimming Pool Gingham Linen cardstock. I cut it to approximately 3 3/4” x 11 1/4” and score at 3 3/4” and 7 1/2”.

I adhered the center section to the page, creating another fun spot for photos and journaling.

For the back, I used the adorable Polaroid-style scenes from the collection to create another tri-fold that opens from left to right.

And, of course, we can’t forget the best part—embellishing! I added layers, foam adhesive, mini icons, Doodle-Pops, and fun phrases like “The Life Is Sweet” and “On Vacation Mode.” For the front cover, I created a little beach scene using the palm tree Doodle-Pop, beach embellishments, and mini icons. I finished the album with a rainbow sheer ribbon closure.

And that’s it! A tiny 4” x 4” Summer Fun mini album with pockets, interactive pages, and plenty of space for photos and embellishments.

SUMMER FUN - BEACH VACATION DOUBLE PAGE LAYOUT | with Inessa

For today’s project, I created a fun double-page layout using the Summer Fun collection, and I really had fun creating with it — pun intended!

I love creating double-page layouts when I have several photos from the same day or event because they give me plenty of room to tell the story while still leaving lots of space for all the cute embellishments. I documented a few photos from our family trip to Punta Cana

For my background, I started with two sheets of Gull Friends paper. I used the navy blue side with the white polka dots as the foundation for both pages.

Next, I added two sheets of Seashells by the Seashore. One piece was trimmed to approximately 9.5 x 9.5 inches, and the second was trimmed to 9.5 x 10.5 inches. I distressed all of the edges before adhering them to my background. I positioned the patterned papers approximately 1.25 inches from the top, with each piece sitting flush along the outside edge of its page.

To add another layer of color and pattern, I brought in the Water Babies paper. I trimmed one piece to 3 x 7 inches and another to 2 x 7 inches, distressed the edges, and tucked them underneath the Seashells by the Seashore paper on each side of the layout. I love how just a little bit of that wave pattern peeking out adds another fun detail.

For my photos, I used one 4 x 6 photo along with four 3 x 4 photos. One of the photos is hidden underneath an interactive flap, which gave me an easy way to include another photo without making the layout feel too crowded.

On the left side of the layout, I spaced the photos approximately a quarter to half an inch apart. On the right side, the spacing is closer to an eighth to a quarter of an inch. I mostly eyeballed the placement rather than measuring everything exactly.

For the flap, I used two of the 3 x 4 cards cut from the 12 x 12 patterned paper, placing one on the front and another underneath. This created another little interactive element while also adding more of the adorable Summer Fun artwork to the page.

Then came my favorite part — embellishing!

I used lots of pieces from the Odds & Ends, mixed in a few pieces from the Bits & Pieces, and added titles and phrases from the Chit Chat pack. I spread the embellishments throughout both pages to help visually connect the entire double-page design.

Of course, I couldn’t resist adding some Doodle-Pops! I used the adorable Tropical Trio Doodle-Pops, featuring the toucan, seagull, and the cutest little iguana, along with some fun seashell accents. They add so much personality and dimension to the layout.

To finish everything off, I added just a little bit of sparkle glue to the center of the flowers, coconuts and the ice in the drink cooler.

I absolutely love how bright, playful, and summery this double-page layout turned out. The Summer Fun collection was perfect for documenting these photos, and all of the little tropical details made this one especially fun to create.

SUMMER FUN DISC BOUND MINI ALBUM | with Niella

Hi crafty friends! Nice to see you all pop by! Today I am so happy to show you my latest Summer Fun project which is a disc bound 6x4 hard cover mini album! It is full to the brim of hidden tuck spots, cute icons and fun areas to memory keep!  Stay tuned to see my video showcase of my mini album which shows all the pages and dimension!

For the focal point on the front over, I've added the sweet is the Diggin' Summer doodle-pop!  I've added some foam adhesive underneath to bring it forward a touch more and it looks so great! To add more dimension, I've added some glitter dust around the ledges and added some Shaker Bitty Bubbles, sweet!

I've loved re-visiting and re-designing with the Summer Fun collection.  Every pattern is adorable and the sea creatures and fun icons make putting together easy! I've just used whatever piece and pattern I've felt and in every Doodlebug collection there is so much to play around with.  From the darling papers to the happy stickers, whatever you pull out to create with is so cute!

To add special touches is my jam! I love to add sewing machine stitching on nearly every page.  The strands of thread add that whimsy touch.  I've enjoyed creating the front and back of every page and cannot wait to fill it with all my families memories.  This would also be such a darling gift.  You can create a mini then package up some more bits and pieces and gift it all together in a basket.  That would be such a well received treasure.

SUMMER FUN - SUMMER MINI ALBUM | with Miguel

I'm ready to document my summer—and what better way than with a beautiful mini-album using Doodlebug’s gorgeous Summer Fun collection! For this project, I used a circular die to create a layered cover featuring my favorite Catch a Wave heavyweight acetate sheet!

To decorate my cover, I added Odds & Ends and Doodle Pops which are the perfect size for these pieces.  I  applied the title using puffy word stickers, and added some sparkle with shaped sprinkles.

For the inside pages, I used various sheet designs, and on some pages, I added small inserts to increase photo capacity, decorating them with odds and ends and mini icons from the collection.

 

I finished my mini-album by binding it with the Cinch, I really loved this deconstructed style; it looks quite different from a traditional album. Thanks for stopping by! See you soon!

SUMMER FUN OUR BEACH DAY LAYOUT | with Tya

 Hello crafty friends! Tya here, and today I’m sharing a bright and cheerful summer layout featuring the adorable Summer Fun collection.

I had these sweet photos of Maddie and Ethan enjoying a summer day at Bear Lake, and I knew immediately that Summer Fun would be perfect for them. The happy colors and all of those adorable beach-themed icons were just begging to be used! I love how this layout captures that carefree feeling of childhood summers—sunshine, sand, water, and lots of happy memories.

         

Building the Background

I started my layout with a piece of white cardstock because I really wanted all of those gorgeous Summer Fun colors to pop. I added some light blue ink splatters across the background to bring in a little extra color and texture without taking away from the photos.

Along the left side, I added a strip of the fabulous Beach Towel patterned paper. I repeated the same rainbow paper on the right side of the layout, layering it with the orange starfish Seashells by the Seashore paper and that beautiful, bright blue Gull Friends paper. I love how repeating the same colors on both sides helps tie everything together while still leaving plenty of white space.

A Little Beach Scene

One of my favorite parts of this layout is the little scene I created along the lower left side. Doodlebug’s Odds & Ends are always so much fun for building these little clusters!

I layered the colorful beach sign over the rainbow strip and added the adorable striped beach chair beside it. Above the sign, I tucked in the sun, cloud, and little seagull to create a sunny beach-day scene.

And of course, I couldn’t resist adding that darling little turtle and starfish near the bottom!  They are from the Puffy Icons Stickers and the Icons Stickers. A few tiny heart accents and a flower on the chair added just a little more dimension and detail. These sweet little characters are exactly why I love Doodlebug so much!

Creating the Photo Area

For the main portion of the layout, I placed my two photos side by side on the blue polka-dot patterned paper. I kept the photos fairly large because those sweet faces are definitely the stars of this page!

I love the contrast of the bright photos against the blue background, and the white borders around the photos help separate them from all of the colorful patterns and embellishments.

At the top of the photos, I created another fun embellishment cluster using two layered tags. I tied one with some natural twine and then layered on a sandcastle die cut from the Odds and Ends, the cutest little crab Icon Sticker, and a Puffy Icon seashell.

I also added the “beach therapy” and “FUN” stickers from the This and That sticker sheet,  along with a small flower cluster. I love mixing different shapes, textures, and layers in my embellishment clusters—it gives you so many fun little details to discover!

For my title, I used the large “Our Beach Day” pieces from the Chit Chat and placed them right across the bottom of the photos. The light blue lettering was the perfect choice against the darker blue patterned paper and really helps the title stand out.

I tucked a colorful beach ball Icon Sticker beside the title and added another little flower cluster on the opposite side. Those small embellishments help frame the title and draw your eye right into the photos.

Underneath, I added my journaling about Maddie and Ethan spending the day digging in the sand and soaking up all that summertime fun at Bear Lake. I backed the journaling with kraft cardstock and finished the bottom with a sweet pink polka dot scalloped border from the This and That Sticker Sheet.

I always love including journaling and a date on my layouts. Years from now, it’s those little details that will help bring the memories behind these photos back to life.

One Sweet Summer Memory

I had so much fun creating this layout with the Summer Fun Collection! The bright rainbow colors, adorable beach icons, and playful patterns were absolutely perfect for documenting these photos of Maddie and Ethan. Looking back at these pictures from 2008 makes me especially happy that I took the time to scrapbook these everyday summer moments. Those simple days at the beach really do become some of the sweetest memories.
