SUMMER FUN HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAYOUT | with Inessa

Today I’m sharing a quick and colorful scrapbook layout created with just two pieces of patterned paper from the Summer Fun collection, a small piece from the 6x8 paper pad, and plenty of beautiful florals from the Bits and Pieces pack. This collection features gorgeous, bold florals and beautiful shades of blue that work wonderfully for vacation photos, summer memories, birthdays, and so many other themes.

Although this collection has a tropical summer feel, I decided to use it to document photos from my daughter’s 16th birthday celebration. I absolutely love how the bright colors and florals complemented the fun photos of her celebrating with her friends.
I started with the Polka Dot Bikini patterned paper as the background for my layout. Next, I used my circle cutter to trim an 8-inch circle from the Let's Lua paper. This paper has the sweetest little pink floral details and created the perfect centerpiece for the design.

I adhered the circle in the center of the background paper and then began arranging florals from the Bits and Pieces pack around the outside edge to create a colorful wreath. One of my favorite ways to make floral embellishments stand out is to add a little dimension before adhering them to the page.
For the leaves and flower petals, I gently bent each piece in half. This simple step helps them lift away from the background and gives the wreath a fuller, more layered appearance. I also applied liquid adhesive only to the centers of the flowers and along the bottoms of the leaves. Leaving the outer edges unglued allows the petals and leaves to remain raised instead of sitting completely flat against the page.

I mixed together a variety of floral sizes to keep the wreath interesting and balanced. As I worked my way around the circle, I paid close attention to the placement of the darker pink and blue flowers. Because these colors really pop off the page, I spread them evenly throughout the wreath. This helps guide the eye around the entire layout and keeps one area from feeling too heavy. Once the wreath was complete, I added Shape Sprinkles and coordinating colored Sprinkles to the centers of several flowers. These tiny details brought even more texture, shine, and interest to the floral arrangement.

I also tucked pieces of silver thread into the wreath and added a little more around the page. To finish the layout, I added two photos of my daughter celebrating her 16th birthday with her friends. I completed the title area with the “Happy Birthday” banner from the Chit Chat pack and an adorable pink camera embellishment.

I love how this layout came together and how easily the Summer Fun collection worked for a birthday theme. It is a great reminder that themed collections do not have to be used only for their intended subject. Look at the colors, patterns, and embellishments and think about how they might work with the memories you want to document. Have a fabulous day!
