Pinterest Inspired Challenge: Mandala Layout by Karen
Hi everyone! It's Karen, and I today I get to share a bit of inspiration created from some inspiration - it's the Design team's Pinterest challenge and I can't wait to share with you what I created!
On my Pinterest account, I have a board called "A World of Color". It's my "happy place" board where I collect all sorts of pictures of colors things - crafts, fashion, photographs, etc. It's a board I like to go to when I am in need of a little bit of brightness in my life, but I have to admit, that I don't usually use it as an inspiration for new project...until this project that is!
One of my favorite new pins on this board was a great showcase of some colorful crochet mandala:
I loved the shapes, I loved the colours and I loved the way they appeared to be falling from the top of the image. So I dug into my Doodlebug stash and decided that my beautiful, colorful doilies would be the perfect product to play with for this layout (Ummm...all I have to say is that I don't play with doilies often enough)!
In order to create the multicoloured effect, I simply cut out layers of different doilies and glued one on top of another.
For instance, on this orange, pink and red doily, I started with a full sized orange as my base. I then took a red doily and cut off everything except for the inner circle and glued that onto the orange base. I then grabbed a pink doily, cut off the outside edge below the flowers shape and the inside circular piece. I then glued the pink on top of the orange and red. I also kept all the pieces I cut off to create other layered doilies in different colour combinations.
The fun part is that since Doodlebug has two different sizes of doilies, you can use the same technique on the minis and have even more variety for your project. And although I didn't do it here because I wanted the cut out pattern to match on each piece, you could make the project even easier by layering a mini doily on top of a regular-sized doily.
So there you have it - while this layout doesn't feature one one of Doodlebug's adorable themes, it does showcase all we love about Doodlebug colour - and all that I love about my adorable daughter! Thanks for stopping by!
Hugs,
Karen
