Dragon Tails Collection: Layout with a Bit of Chocolage by Karen

Hi everyone! It's Karen and today I get to share with you some inspiration for the new collection called Dragon Tails. Now hang on to your hats, because once I got going with this collection, I just couldn't stop crafting and I have a feeling that it will do the same for you!

Last summer, my family was lucky enough to spend a few weeks in Florida, and during one of our adventures at the Disney parks, my hubby came across a viking hat (yes, most people come away with Mickey ears...but my hubby...) Anyway, I thought that the picture I managed to snap was a perfect match with this darling collection. And because the photo was so fun, I decided to see if I could bring it to life in a whole new way by embedding it into a scene created with one of the papers from the 12x12 pack and a fun ship die cut from the odds and ends collection. I simply layered some pastel cardstock that I cut into wave shapes and placed that over top of the bottom part of the background paper. The ship and photo were glued on top and voila - my hubby and daughter went sailing the seas! Originally, I was going to do the journaling along the edges of the waves, but there were some images on the background paper that didn't get completely covered by the waves, so I decided to create some hidden journling, using the waves to create a pocket for the tag. To create a bit more dimension, I used more of the Odds and Ends die cuts with some foam adhesive to pop out some clouds and I was all done. I think this is one of my all time favourite layouts! But I wasn't done there because with all those cute die cuts out on my kitchen table, I had to keep creating. This time, it was in the form of one of my other favourite projects - candy bar sliders! I know, I know...it doesn't really get any better than your favourite chocolate wrapped in Doodlebug paper and topped of with viking and dragon die cuts - well, until you add some fun puns into the mix as well...
...like a viking who just isn't liking the idea of another birthday...
...or a dragon who has a bit of the sniffles...
...or a viking that is hoping an upcoming birthday you have is up to your liking! Each of these fun sentiments were simply hand lettered inside one of the instant photo frames that you can find in the Odds and Ends die cut pack.
And these sliders were designed as a little card that opens up with the candy bar tucked in behind. Simply pull up gently on the ribbon and out pops a little treat! I honestly can not wait to hand these out (even if that means that someone has to get the sniffles to receive the dragon one)! So there you have it - a couple of projects that I hope you are viking..I mean, liking! Have a great day, and thanks for stopping by! Hugs, Karen
