Hi Everyone!  It's Kathy with you today, with a project I created using the fabulous new Here Comes Santa Cut files available in both the Silhouette Online Store and the Lori Whitlock SVG Shop!  One of my all time favorite Doodlebug Characters is the little lopsided snowman!  You can imagine my excitement to find that he is now a cut file!  I decided to make him the focus of a fun Holiday decoration for my front door!  Take a peek...

The one thing I love about the Doodlebug Cut files is that they come with a base piece.  All of the pieces that show are layered onto this piece.  This helps when you want to make extra large Doodlebug Characters.  Since the base doesn't show, you can enlarge it bigger than your cutting mat, and cut it in two pieces which get glued together to form the base.  You can't see any seams because the other pieces are layered over the base!  Only the pieces that "show" restrict the size of your finished product. Here's how I did this in Silhouette.

First, I cut the top half of the snowman base.  Some of the base overlapped the mat on the sides, but since there are pieces that get glued over them, it didn't really matter to me. When cutting off the mat, make sure to go to edit, preferences, defaults and check "Cut to edge of Page".  This tells your machine to cut all the way to the edge of the paper.

Next I cut the lower half of the snowman.  Make sure that there is an area on both pieces you are cutting that "overlap".  This is where you will glue them together to form one base piece.

As I mentioned above, only the pieces that show limit the size you can make your character.  In this case, the white part of the snowman was the biggest piece.  When I sized my file, I made sure that this piece fit on the mat completely.  One hint when sizing files, make sure that all the pieces are grouped together when sizing so that everything is re sized uniformly.

Here are some more close-ups of my snowman... He is pieced together using Doodlebug Textured Cardstock,  Gingham-Linen Petite Prints, Here Comes Santa Claus Papers and some Chevron Sugar Coated Cardstock for the Snowflakes.  I also used some Ladybug Chunky Twine to Tie it all together (sorry, couldn't resist the pun)

I used the new Snowflakes #1 and Snowflakes #2 files as bases for my letters.

To get a layered look, I used the Offset feature in Silhouette to create a background shadow piece.  I thought it made the snowflakes pop a bit more.

And last but not least I added the cute little bird which was part of last week's release!

And just so you can get a better idea of his size, here he is on my door.

That's it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek!
