Kids Craft Challenge: Colorful School Supplies by Monique

Hello everyone! Monique here sharing a fun "back to school" Kids Craft project. In about 2 weeks time the summer vacation will be over and my youngest will have to go back to school. Luckily he loves school and he can't wait to see all his friends again so he has no problem with that! When I suggested that maybe we could decorate some of his school stuff he happily agreed.

Here's what we did: we decorated a little notebook, a few of his pencils & the pencil pot and we created a key hanger for his bicycle key. 

What we mostly used were the super fun washi tapes. We had a bunch of white pencils & a glass (milk) jar we wanted to brighten up. We covered the pencils with washi tapes (some completely, some partly). The glass jar got only a few strips of washi tape and a tag with my son's initials, which we adhered with a piece of chunky twine. 

To create the key ring we crocheted a little chain using chunky twine and adhered a button and a brad (the pins on the back of the brad are easily folded inwards). On another piece of (thin) Doodle twine we threaded a piece of a pixie and again some beautiful boutique buttons:

Last but not least we decorated a little notebook, again with the use of the colorful washi tapes:

I thought that it would be fun to show you how we created the washi heart for the front of the notebook: 

1. Fold a piece of white printer paper in two and cut out half a heart. 

2. Fold the heart open, place on a cutting mat and randomly adhere strips of washi tape over it. 

3. Lift the heart of the cutting mat, turn around and cut around the paper heart using a pair of scissors. 

4. Here's your washi heart! Adhere to notebook! 

Decorate the rest of the cover of the notebook with twine, buttons, die-cuts, sprinkles and stickers and you're done! I hope I gave you some inspiration for a (rainy) afternoon crafting with the kids!

Kid's Craft Challenge: Clip Up Photo Board by Courtney

I was really excited to pick one of the (all too many) projects that I have had to my head to do with my little humans. They LOVE doodlebug washi tape maybe more than anyone on earth. I am surprisingly stingy with it so when I brought 48 rolls of washi tape out and told them we were going to play with it... needless to say they were STOKED. 

I used to have a banner with their direct family and godparents on it in their room. They loved it and it was a way to keep them close. It was cute but it didn't hold that many people and it was now really outdated. So I printed out these little 2x2 pictures and went to work. 

They LOVED this Kitten Smitten collection so I knew it was the one to use. First they helped me cover the clothes pins (no joke, they did some themselves at 2.5 and 4 (she just turned 4 last week!)). They are very detail oriented little humans. 

Then I put all the small die cuts from the Odds and Ends out on the table and they got to choose which ones to put on the clothespins (and the orientation of the die cuts). I adhered the die cuts with dimensional foam tape and they were VERY proud of their creations.

Check out my oldest. She just turned 4 a couple of weeks ago. This was her idea for a photo shot... I think I see a next generation doodlebug!

Next it was time for adult help. I cut the 2x2 pictures apart (I print them out as a 4x6 photo) and there were already 4 perfect polaroid frames in the Odds and Ends. I used those first and attached the pictures to the back of the frames using washi tape. The bottom right one in this picture - the pink hearts is one of those die cuts that comes in the Odds and Ends.

After that I found a polaroid frame in my Silhouette arsenal of die cuts, resized them to fit, and I arranged it so that three or four were in each 6x6 inch quadrant. I put the four patterned papers from the 6x6 paper pad in the four quadrants and so I was able to cut them all in one pass. YES! 

Lastly I had this board in the kitchen and I added all the photos to the wire. I added the "family" using chippers in swimming pool.

This would also be super cute on one of those chicken wire frames or simply by getting an empty photo frame and stringing twine across it. CA-UTE!

Kids Craft Challenge: Tic Tac Toe Game by Christine

Cats vs Dogs, Kittens vs Puppies, it seems everyone has a side that they love.  Why not take our newest collections featuring these cute critters and make them into a Tic Tac Toe game for your favorite kiddos?  Christine joining you today with a new way to use our Puppy Love and Kitten Smitten Collections!

This could not be easier to assemble!  Here's the supplies you need: 1 piece of Lily White 12 X 12 cardstock, Icon Stickers or Odds & Ends from both Puppy Love and Kitten Smitten (I used a mixture of Icons and Odds & Ends). 6 X 6 Paper Pad from both collections, and Playful Paws Washi Tape.

One more thing that might makes things easier is adding on the clipboard - gives a nice flat playing surface to work on carpet or on the road!

I made 8 cards for each.  I cut out a background square that was 3 1/2 X 3 1/2 inches.  Then the inside square was 3 1/4 X 3 1/4 inches.  I kept those color choices nice and monochromatic so the animals would stand out! 

For my background I used a scoring blade on my cutting pad and scored lines at 4 inches and 8 inches and then put the washi tape over the top.  I was surprised how easy that worked!  

Not only is this fun to assemble but it's also a great way to use up bits and pieces that are left over from a collection!  You could do it for any holidays or seasons too!
