Tuesday Tutorial: Door Hanger by Monique

Hi Doodlebug fans! Here’s Monique with today’s Tuesday Tutorial! This week the design team was challenged to use a card of our choice from Doodlebug’s terrific “Create-A-Card” collection and create something other than “just” a card. So that’s what I did and I created this darling little Door Hanger

Let me show you how I created this Door Hanger:

1. Start with assembling your supplies:

Supplies needed: Create-A-Card (slim filigree assortment), Crushed Velvet Cardstock, La-Di-Dot Cardstock, scraps of patterned paper (I used Petite Prints, Sweet Cakes and Classic), Doodle-Pops (So Tweet), Cardstock Alphabet Stickers (Shin-Dig), Boutique Brads (Birthday Assortment), Doodle Twine (Primary Assortment) and some buttons.

2. Assemble your tools:

Tools: Trimmer, Circle Punch (2 ½”), Coluzzle and pencil.

3. Take your card, flip open and measure the width. Trim a strip of your La-Di-Dot crushed velvet cardstock just a fraction smaller than the card.

4. Use your circle punch to punch a 2 ½” hole in your strip of crushed velvet cardstock (position your punch at the top of the strip).

5. Flip the card over and draw a circle on the back of your card (using the circle you just punched) like this:

6. Use your Coluzzle to cut out the circle from your card:

7. Decorate the strip of crushed velvet cardstock BEFORE you adhere it to your card base (so the Door Hanger won’t have brads etc sticking out the back!). Then when you’re finished decorating adhere the strip to your card base and you’re done! Easy Peasy!

Doodlebug Fabric + Tiffany = Raincoat and Tote

I was so excited to have the opportunity to use Doodlebug's "Tuxedo Collection" fabrics by Riley Blake. The prints are darling, and the fabrics were so fun to work with. I made two projects- a raincoat and a bag. Both patterns are by Amy Butler and you can find more information about them on my blog.

When I saw that some of the fabric prints were available in laminated cotton, I knew exactly what I wanted to make. I've seen this raincoat pattern at the fabric store for a while, and I've always wanted to try sewing with laminated cotton, so I finally took on the challenge. It was actually really fun! I made the outside of the coat with a white and black laminated print, and the inside of the coat as well as the inside flaps of the front pockets, are lined with a black and white striped print. I've got some great tips on how to sew with this type of fabric over on my blog that you'll want to check out. Knowing ahead of time how to adjust your machine, how to iron it, what type of foot to use, and even the type of thread will help it go smoothly. Believe it or not, this raincoat only took me three days.

 The Bag
The bag on the other hand took a bit more time. It's got 8 yards of interfacing (double thick) plus fusible felt, so it holds it's own weight and it super sturdy. Each panel is outlined with cording I made with a plain black fabric, and the top of the bag closes with a zipper. The black and grey prints are just darling. I'm so in love with this bag! This bag itself is huge and it's big enough for my outings with the kids and I made 4 big pockets inside so there's lots of room plus it's organized.

The rose is from the Tuxedo fabric collection as well. I love how the prints all work so well together. Now when there's a rainy day- I can be decked out head to toe in Doodlebug!

OMBRE with Doodlebug's Melinda & Monique

Hello, it's Melinda and Monique with you today and we're going to take a look at a trend that's making its way around the paper crafting industry at the moment... ombre! And for those of you who are unfamiliar with the term:

Ombre: n. A French term meaning "shaded".
Usually a multi colored stripe, with colors
graduating from light to dark.

Doodlebug's rainbow of signature colors is perfect for creating projects that reflect this new trend and really take the guess work out of your design. However, we were up for a challenge and decided to set ourselves the task of creating an ombre project using a monochromatic theme.
