Whooooo loves DOILIES: 3D Doily Owl by Jennifer Beason

Hello Doodlebug fans. Jennifer here, with my take on the "Doily Challenge".  I decided to create an owl for my project.  The doilies work perfectly for this, as they add lots of texture and have a feather like look, when rolled.
For the feathers around the owl's eyes, this is the technique I used.  BTW: This method can also be used to create flowers.
  • Select a Mini Doily, in this case I chose the brown.
  • Cut out the center.
  • Cut the outer ring of the doily and begin to roll it up, as shown. Note: Add a little glue when you start to hold the center together.

  • Keep rolling the doily until you reach the end. Glue the end down.
  • Keep wrapping doilies around the first one, until you have the desired size. Mine is just over a inch wide. Repeat the same steps to create another set of feathers, the same size.
  • Glue the feathers to a 4" tall paper mâché egg. Use large doilies (cut them out the same way as before) to wrap the feathers. I used the brown and teal polka dotted doilies, but in the picture above you can just see the brown. Chunky Brads were glued to the center of each rolled doily, for the owl's eyes.
The body of the owl was covered with large white doilies. These were cut as before, but scrunched a little before wrapping around the egg. Gelatos, ink or paint can be used to add some color to the feathers.  Then some fur trim, felt and wood branches were used to complete the owl. The owl is holding on to a treat bag sign that was embellished with two more doilies, buttons and gems.  The sign can be used to hold a gift card, money or a little "Thank You" note.
Here are some more close ups.
Happy crafting, everyone! Jennifer
