Tuesday Tutorial: U & Me Wooden Frame

by Monique Liedtke

About once a month I visit the local garden centre and what I like most about it, is that they have this corner full of home decor items. I particularly love all the hearts they have. They come in different materials and sizes and when I saw this white wooden one, about 10" x 12", I knew it had endless possibilities.

Here's what I did with it:

1. Gather your supplies: the heart you want to alter, Doodlebug's Sweet Cakes line (patterned paper, twine, diecuts and cardstock stickers), jewels and mini jewels, ribbon and Shin-Dig alpha stickers. Furthermore some ink and your tools: trimmer, scissors, pencil, punches, dies & diecut machine, 2 nails and a hammer:

2. Place the heart on the paper you want for the background. Use a pencil to draw around the heart, cut it out and ink the edges.

3. Embellish with jewels:

4. Hammer 2 nails in the back of the heart and add twine.

5. Choose diecuts & stickers and punch out some figures to embellish the heart:

6. Adhere the paper to the heart (I used tacky tape), tie a ribbon to the heart so you can hang it on your wall and add the embellishments. I finished by adding a title. The Shin-Dig letters are just the perfect size!

7. Hang a photo on the twine, using two mini clothes pins. Make a little banner and hang in front of your photo, tie this twine also to the 2 nails on the back of the heart.

8. And you're done! Here's a close-up of the embellishments:

Hope you'll like it!

Birthday Celebration by Kathy + Giveaway

Hi! Doodlebug design team member Kathy Martin here taking over the Doodlebug blog today! Isn't that cool? Since this doesn't happen very often I thought we should celebrate! You know, have some fun, throw a party! What do you think? Are you game?

To have a party we'll need some brightly colored balloons and confetti. What else? Oh yea, we have to have a cake or cupcakes! How about party hats? Pictures will be a lot more fun if we all wear party hats, don't you think?

What's that? What about presents? Now your talking! We should have presents! What's a party without presents? I wonder if the folks at Doodlebug would mind me giving away presents? Do you think they would be okay with that? Maybe if I have just one cool giveaway, they wouldn't mind? So, what should I giveaway? That's a tough one because there are so many great Doodlebug products!

Oh, I know what the giveaway should be! Since this is a party, I'll giveaway a Birthday Celebration pack! Your choice of a boy or girl theme. I think that's pretty awesome, don't you?

I recently made a scrapbook page with this line. Would you like to see it?

With all these bright colors, balloons, and an assortment of stickers, this collection is perfect for all celebrations, don't you think? You can create cards for graduations, or make invitations, and so much more!
I really enjoyed creating this page of my son's 10th birthday! These balloons begged for some Doodle Twine to make a bouquet with! And I just had to top off some of the confetti with some brightly colored mini jewels!

To create my title, I layered one of the die cuts with a present and party hat. To give them pop, I  attached some adhesive foam tape underneath. As you can see, everything you need for your celebration projects is included in this pack!

GIVEAWAY
What do you think of this collection? Would you like to win it? Alright! All you have to do is leave a comment here on my blog and tell me what kind of celebration you would use this line for.
