Smash Up Challenge: Blue Jean and Maisy Puppy by Traci

Hi Doodlebug friends!  It's Traci, and I'm happy to be back on the blog today!  The design team is having fun with a color challenge this week, and we were also asked to choose a past project that has inspired us. I picked Blue Jean for my color, and chose one of Melinda Spinks beautiful layouts as my inspiration piece.  This is my sweet girl, Maisy, when she was just 12 weeks old.

And here is Melinda's layout.  I love how she always uses embellishments in unique ways on her layouts! 

For my layout, I used the new Puppy Love collection, and lots of adorable shape and dot sprinkles.

For my title, I used trio rubons.  They worked perfectly for following around my heart shape.

Smash Up Challenge: Bumblebee Layout by Christine

I have two things that I include on nearly every layout: circles and some shade of yellow.  Christine joining you today to show how with this challenge I combined my love of both - I picked to work with Bumblebee for my color and I based my layout on a layout from Mendi that used a whole bunch of circles.  Here's my layout!

Mendi used tons of color on hers but I followed her design in using circles, three photos, and a similar background paper.

Our family recently moved from Illinois to Ohio, One of the hard things to leave behind was a disc swing that my five year old had and loved.  He spent hours every day on that swing.  Our new home doesn't have any older trees that could support a swing like that.  I took lots of pictures of my boy on that tree and wanted to document that smile before it faded too much!  These pictures captured some of that joy and since he was outside it was fitting to highlight the sunshine!

I used a combination of Shin-dig Sugar Coated Stickers, Teensy Type, and Icon Stickers from Spring Garden to create my title.

My circles came from a variety of places: Chevron Sugar Coated, Sprinkles Vellum, Kraft in Color, and Petite Prints.  I hand stitched my sun and sun rays and then added in both regular and glitter Sprinkles.  A few little pops of limeade green were all I needed to bring the whole layout together.

Smash Up Challenge: Happy Fall Hanging Decor by Jennifer Beason

We have challenged our Design Team to a "Smash Up Challenge." Not only were they asked to pick their favorite Doodlebug Color to design with and try their best to design with 75% of their project in that color, but they were also asked to pick a past Doodlebug Design Project to base their new project on, previously known as our "Inspired by" Challenge. Hello, everyone. Jennifer here, with my take on the Doodlebug Smash-Up Challenge.  The color I chose to work with was Bon Bon Brown and my inspiration was this beautiful altered embroidery hoop by Tamera Tripodi. I loved the round shape of the piece, the small bird's and butterflies, the dangling raindrops and the large Spring title.

Since Fall's not too far away, I decided to make a wall hanging for the season, using the elements I just mentioned as my starting point. Here's what I created.

I did not have an embroidery hoop, so instead I cut a half circle out of chipboard and added a half inch rim around the edge to give the piece a thicker looking edge.  Once the half circle was covered with paper, I found some old DB rick rack to embellish the edge. I knew I had been hoarding that for something!!

All the elements, like the title, fox and leaves were cut out of chipboard using the Silhouette, then covered with patterned paper or cardstock.

The fox needed something to bring him to life, so some stitching was added his face, ear, chest, and tail. Then to give him a little color, a scarf was made out of patterned paper and twine.  More twine was stitched onto a wood embellishment and applied to his body. To finish him off a tiny black sprinkle was used for his eye.

The title was embellished with sprinkles, acorn die-cuts, berry stickers and animal doodle-pops. Some small twine pom poms were also added to each side of the title, among the leaves.

Instead of raindrops, I made falling leaves on my piece. Each leaf was covered with a different brown patterned paper and sprinkles.
